Aug 26, 2016 (newstodate): From vision to fact: the Lithuanian logistics company Hoptrans has now presented its plans for the start of freighter services between Tianjin, in China, and Kaunas, Lithuania, with the first flight on September 15, 2016.
The twice-weekly scheduled charter service on Sundays and Wednesdays will be operated with a Boeing 747-300F from the Belarus cargo carrier TransAviaExpress.
Utilizing the time difference, the aircraft is scheduled to depart and arrive on same weekdays at both ends, offering close to same-day deliveries ready for onward distribution of shipments.
-The new service is driven by Chinese e-trade exports, and shipments will be distributed from Kaunas to the Baltic, Scandinavian, Central European and other markets by Hoptrans' finely-tuned network of trucking services, says Jan Hyttel, Hoptrans Hoptrans co-owner and member of the Board.
-Even more unique, this new freighter service will from the very start also build up volumes of cargo to China from European exporters to contribute to a balanced operation.
-Our assumptions are that China's very recent approval of a number of Lithuanian, Polish and other producers of perishables and dairies will boost exports from these regions to China, and our new freighter service would serve this new development with fast end efficient logistics.
-The coming new freighter service will offer shorter flying times compared to operations into other airports such as Copenhagen and Frankfurt, trucking and logistics are provided at competitive costs, and combined these factors will contribute to bolster the success of this new venture.
-Behind this new venture is a broad portfolio of Chinese customers which in our view is a firm guarantee of the long-term commitment to establishing this freighter service on a permanent basis. The twice-weekly operation is thus to be seen as a test period to ascertain the viability of the service during the coming peak season till the end of 2016, and plans for 2017 will be based on these results, says Mr Hyttel.
According to Mr Hyttel, it is under consideration to move the registration of the aircraft from Belarus to Lithuania in order to optimize the flexibility of the aircraft in terms of routing.
