Aug 23,2016 (newstodate): Russia's aviation authority Rosaviatsia has now certified Russian airlines to launch services from Moscow's new 4th international airport, Ramenskoye Zhukovsky Airport, officially opened for traffic from March 15, 2016.
Yamal Airlines has been licensed to start flights from the airport to Vienna, Plovdiv, Budapest, Munich and Prague with four weekly rotations on each route, and the carrier may also launch flights from Ramenskoye Zhukovsky Airport to Tbilisi in Georgia, Aktau, Astana, Almaty in Kazakhstan, Osh, Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan, and Khujand, Dushanbe in Tajikistan.
Ural Airlines has been licensed to open flights from Zhukovsky to Burgas, Beijing and Antalya as well as the CIS countries Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan.
On the other hand, applications by other airlines have been denied, including Ural Airlines that had wanted to operate flights to Paris and Prague.
The need for a fourth airport to relive congestion at airports in the Moscow region was imperative at the time the project was launched, but with the dampening of Russian air traffic since the imposition of sanctions on the country after the Crimean annexation and the participation in the war in Ukraine, the airport has faced problems in filling its apron with customers.
