Aug 16, 2016 (newstodate): Lithuania's Kaunas Airport is seeing a strong development in passenger traffic in 2016.
During the first six months of 2016 the airport has grown passenger volumes by six percent, and the growth will not stop there.
Wizz Air will launch flights from Kaunas to Eindhoven starting from September 22, and three Wizz Air routes to the Norwegian destinations Stavanger, Bergen and Aalesund, currently operating from Vilnius Airport, will be moved to Kaunas Airport.
On the cargo side, the trend is less spectacular as Kaunas Airport saw its total volumes down by 20 percent during January-June 2016, to 1,061 tonnes.
June 2015 saw the launch of Aerohub KUN - a long-term project to establish Kaunas Airport as a center for aviation-related industries as well as a logistics hub in Lithuania serving the Baltic, Russian and E European markets.
