Aug 23, 2016 (newstodate): Always on the look-out for new prospective markets for Norway's seafood exports, the Norwegian Seafood Council is now casting its eyes on Iran.
-The Norwegian Seafood Council is currently working on an assessment of the market potential in Iran for Norwegian seafood products. No conclusion has yet been made, but we are now arranging a seafood seminar in Tehran attended by Norwegian exporters, the Iranian seafood industry as well as Iranian authorities including customs, to discuss potentials and identify possible bottlenecks, says Geir Haavard Hanssen, Norwegian Seafood Council Director of Communications.
Also attending the conference from the Norwegian side are companies offering technology and competencies concerning aqua culture.
In 2015, Norway's exports to Iran were a modest 610 tonnes, mostly comprising frozen products, but the proportion of fresh salmon also increased among the country's 80 mio inhabitants including a growing middle class requesting Norwegian seafood.
