Aug 24, 2016 (newstodate): A fresh tender for three-year concessions on subsidized domestic routes in Norway has now been closed.
Traditionally strong in the contest has been Wideroe, with the Danish carrier DAT in and out of earlier concession periods.
New on the scene this time is a start-up carrier, FlyViking Owned and managed by a former Wideroe pilot, Ola Giaver.
FlyViking will be offering flights on a route net in Norway comprising small local airports with short runways, and has plans for building a fleet of up to 19 Bombardier Dash-8-100 aircraft, with the first 10 to be delivered on a leasing contract with the Canadian company Avmax, Canada, over the coming two years.
Neither Wideroe or DAT have yet published details of which routes they have placed bids on, but FlyViking confirms that it has placed bids on all routes comprising short runway operations comprised by the tender.
