Aug 31, 2016 (newstodate): The EU Commission has ruled that Finland's current application of different airport charges for domestic and international flights are not in compliance with the rules.
Finavia will now have to present its plan for adjustment of the charges scheme before the end of this year and hopes to be granted a two-year grace period before full implementation of new equal international and domestic airport charges must be completed.
In effect, airport charges on domestic flights will go up while charges on international flights will be reduced. This may create a problem for domestic flights from smaller airports in the country, calling for state subsidies of certain routes.
