Aug 15, 2016 (newstodate): Danish leisure carrier Primera Air reports a strong performance in 2017.
The carrier, managed by Hrafn Thorgeirsson as CEO, has transported over 550.000 passengers in the first seven months of 2016 and expects full-year loads to reach, or even exceed, one million passengers, operating with rising profits in a highly competitive market.
Originally established as an Icelandic carrier, Primera Air in 2009 set up the subsidiary Primera Air Scandinavia under a Danish AOC and based at Copenhagen Airport.
Seeking new European charter business benefiting from Latvia's competitive cost base, Primera Air Nordic launched services by October 2014, with Riga Airport as its base.
With some 100 staff at Riga, the management and control of the fleets of the two airlines Primera Air Nordic and Primera Air Scandinavia is now performed by Primera Air's Network Control Center and the Commercial Department in Latvia.
In 2016, Primera Air operates to over 70 destinations with a fleet of eight Boeing 737-800 aircraft, and plans are ready for adding a further two aircraft in 2017 to meet growing demand in the markets.
Of the eight aircraft, three to four are operated out of the carrier's single largest market in Denmark, two out of Sweden, one in Finland and one in Iceland, while one aircraft is placed on the ACMI market.
