Aug 15, 2016 (newstodate): Plans by the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina to inject new life into the country's Bihac Golubic Airport, near the border to Croatia, have been stalled.
In its latest 15-year transportation development program the airport at Bihac has been deleted and funds, earlier earmarked for developing the airport have been channeled instead to the country's other airports, notably Sarajevo.
The plans for Bihac Golubic Airport called for construction of a new passenger terminal, construction of a new ATC tower as well an extension of the existing 1,200 m runway to 2,000 m, allowing for operations by larger passenger and cargo aircraft.
Devoid of state financial support, the future of the airport now hinges on potential support from international partners, including companies in Turkey and Saudi Arabia that have earlier vented their interest .
