Aug 02, 2016 (newstodate): If the reason behind Beijing Capital Airline's decision not to call at Copenhagen Airport in 2016, despite earlier announcements, was due to shortage of aircraft, the situation may soon improve..
On August 1, 2016, the carrier took delivery of its third Airbus A330-200 aircraft, supplementing the first two aircraft that were delivered only in 2015.
But the airline has ambitious plans to build the fleet to comprising a long-haul fleet of 30 A330 and A350 aircraft over the next five years.
This will allow the airline to pursue its plans for a number of new international routes to Europe, North America and Southeast Asia.
The first international flights by Beijing Capital Airlines were actually on the route to Copenhagen, launched on September 3, 2015, with one weekly flight with Airbus A330-200 aircraft from Hangzhou and Beijing, respectively, to Copenhagen carrying Chinese tourists on package tours sold only by the Chinese tour operator Caissa Touristic.
The company earlier announced its decision to extend the program in 2016 to seven months, bringing a total of over 11,000 Chinese passengers visiting the country - but this obviously never materialized.
