Aug 25, 2016 (newstodate): In line with the general expansion of Chinese carriers' entrance into the European markets, the Balkan region is gaining in attention as well.
Since the Balkan wars in the 90'ies, there has been no direct flight connection between China and the Balkan region.
As earlier reported by newstodate, Beijing Capital Airlines is now planning to launch flights from June 2017 on a new route connecting Beijing and Zagreb, in Croatia.
Beijing Capital Airlines will operate an Airbus A330-200 aircraft on the route that will be driven by Chinese tour operators but open for individual bookings as well.
In Serbia, expectations are that flights between Beijing and Belgrade will also start in 2017 with a yet-unnamed Chinese carrier already deep into talks with the Serb government.
Until 2000, the Serb carrier JAT still operated direct flights between Belgrade and Beijing.
Slovenia is also hoping to see the launch of flights in 2017 on a new route from Ljubljana to Beijing, presumably as an intermediate stop on an existing route by a Chinese carrier, and talks are said to be ongoing between the authorities of the two countries.
