Jul 26, 2016 (newstodate): Ukraine's Lviv Danylo Halytskyi International Airport is hoping for growth in traffic to return again in 2017.
In 2015, passenger numbers fell by 2.5 percent, y-o-y, to 571,000, also due to the decision by Wizz Air to close down its four international routes from April 2015, leaving Ukraine International Airlines the dominating carrier with some 22 percent of all flights.
According to the airport, several airlines have now aired plans for returning services from the summer schedule 2017, including CSA, airBaltic, Belavia and Wizz Air, while negotiations are also underway with Ryanair.
The airport has one 3,300m runway, and plans are to extend this by another 700m, and construction of a new terminal capable of handling up to 1,220 passengers per hour has also been drawn up.
These plans will however require both state and private investments that are not now immediately available.
