Jul 28, 2016 (newstodate): Airbus has now revealed the identity of its launch customer of the long-awaited Airbus A330-300 conversion program.
DHL Aviation has thus published its order for conversion of four Airbus A330-300 passenger aircraft into freighters in a 26-pallet cargo configuration, capable of carrying up to 61 metric tonnes of payload.
The first aircraft will be inducted into EFWs Dresden-based facilities in July 2016, scheduled for re-delivery to DHL Express by end 2017.
The A330P2F conversion program, launched in 2012, is a joint project between Airbus, EFW and ST Aerospace.
ST Aerospace, as the program and technical lead for the engineering development phase, is responsible for applying for the supplemental type certificates for the freighter conversions, from the European Aviation Safety Agency and the US Federal Aviation Administration.
The A330 P2F program includes two versions the A330-200P2F and the larger A330-300P2F.
In December 2014, Egyptair signed a contract with EFW for conversion of two of its Airbus A330-200 passenger aircraft into cargo versions, with options for a further two conversions.
The first of the two aircraft conversions on firm order would be delivered by medio 2018, with the second to follow by the end of the year.
