Jun 08, 2016 (newstodate): Sweden is again connected by direct air link with Beirut, in Lebanon.
Starting from this month, the German carrier Germania will operate flights on the route between Stockholm and Beirut, initially offering two weekly rotations on the route with Airbus A319 aircraft.
Earlier, the Swedish carrier Viking Airlines launched scheduled direct flights from Stockholm Arlanda to Beirut from March 16, 2006, but repercussions among Muslims over the publication of certain caricature drawings forced the carrier to suspend the opening of the route, and the carrier was later declared bankrupt in February 2011.
The Swedish carrier Nordic Aviation also introduced flights from Stockholm to Beirut from June 2009, but these were only operated on an ad-hoc basis and soon suspended.
SAS has tested the destination through its former low-cost adventure Snowflake from 2003, but these flights were again suspended from the start of the winter schedule 2005/2006.
