Jun 13, 2016 (newstodate): Sweden's Jonkoping Airport is quite optimistic as to sustained cargo growth in 2016.
During the first five months of this year, the airport has seen a nine percent growth in total cargo volumes, including a 17 percent growth in international cargo volumes to 1,387 tonnes, while mail volumes continue to decrease by 16 percent, y-o-y, to 320 tonnes reflecting a common trend in the industry.
This compares favorably with the full-year decline in 2015 when the airport saw a drop by 9.5 percent due to the reduction by one flight to four weekly TNT operations at the airport.
-TNT is still operating only four flights at Jonkoping Airport, but we are seeing air cargo volumes on trucks growing significantly, positively outbalancing the shortfall of flown capacity, says Herman Larsson, Jonkoping Airport Marketing Manager.
-Besides TNT we are also seeing time:matters and DAN'X cargo performing well, and we would of course be only happy to welcome even a new operator at the airport which is, however, not currently in sight, says Mr Larsson.
