Jun 02, 2016 (newstodate): Finnair is now not alone in bringing Chinese passengers into Helsinki Airport.
With the first flight on June 1, 2016, the Russian carrier Ural Airlines is now offering two weekly rotations using Airbus A320 aircraft on the route from Yekaterinburg, transferring passengers from the carrier's flights from Beijing and Urumqi.
The traffic is scheduled for the summer season ending in October.
And as already reported by newstodate, another Chinese carrier Beijing Capital Airlines plans to launch flights from Beijing to Helsinki, starting from May 2017 with two weekly rotations using Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
In 2015, the volume of Chinese passengers through Helsinki Airport for the first time overtook the volume of Russian passengers, growing by 50 percent between 2014 and 2015, to about 300,000.
Measured by the amount of connections to Asia, Helsinki Airport is the 5th biggest airport in Europe. In 2016 there are 17 direct destinations from Helsinki to Asia, five of which are in China, operated by Finnair.
Finnair launched its first direct flight to Beijing on June 2, 1988, making the carrier the first Western European airline to operate a non-stop route between Europe and China.
