Jun 22, 2016 (newstodate): Lithuania's smallest international airport at the Baltic coast, Palanga Airport is welcoming two new airlines on June 19, 2016.
The Belarus carrier Belavia launched flights between Minsk and Palanga and will provide one weekly rotation until September 4, 2016, and on the same day Ukraine International Airlines performed its first flight to Palanga from Kiev, now offering two weekly rotations until September 21, 2016.
The airport is seeing brisk growth in traffic in 2016, with the C European LCC Wizz Air launching flights to Palanga from London Luton Airport from March 23, 2016, the Polish carrier LOT flying into Palanga from Warsaw, with six weekly rotations on the route from March 28, 2016, and Ryanair starting operations on a new route between London Stansted and Palanga from March 2016, offering two weekly rotations on the route.
The result is manifest in the airport's passenger statistics that show a doubling of the pax volumes during the first five months of this year.
Since July 1, 2014, all three international airports of Lithuania have been consolidated within one single juridical entity, State Enterprise Lithuanian Airports under the joint management of Gediminas Almantas as CEO, while Marius Gelzinis is Director of Palanga Airport.
