Jun 09, 2016 (newstodate): Swedavia is still struggling with finding a solution to the security issues in its cargo area at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
Since January 1, 2016, the joint security hub, called Checkpoint Cargo, has been closed by the Swedish authority, Transportstyrelsen, due to alleged lack of compliance with pertinent EU airport security standards.
From the start of this year, then, each cargo terminal has been forced to implement an own security control post entailing rising costs for all.
-We were close to a solution but eventually not all stakeholders accepted it, and Transportstyrelsen was hesitant as well as it was not exactly identical to existing solutions at other airports, says Karsten Bjarbo, Swedavia Manager Cargo Operations.
-We thus had to shelve the proposal, but work is continuing to come up with a solution that will meet universal acceptance by stakeholders including the authorities.
-As the situation is now, the security costs shouldered by the individual cargo terminals are probably double those experienced with the Checkpoint Cargo and this is of course not what we want in the longer run, says Mr Bjarbo.
