Jun 15,2016 (newstodate): Russia's Yekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport is targeting a key role in transiting passengers between China and Europe, as already reported by newstodate.
With Koltsovo Airport as its hub, the Russian carrier Ural Airlines has launched new flights to Europe, starting out with flights to Rome and Paris from March 2016, and adding flights to Copenhagen Airport and Helsinki Airport in June 2016.
But it may not stop with passenger transit traffic.
Koltsovo Airport has seen an increase by 45 percent in volumes of cargo from China, processed at the airport's new cargo complex opened in 2012 with a cargo handling capacity of up to 100,000 tonnes per year.
Ural Airlines is now operating a TU-204 freighter service seven times per week from Beijing and once weekly from Harbin, and Aviastar-TU is also operating twice weekly from Harbin.
The new flights by Ural Airlines may thus also bring in ex-China e-trade shipments into the Nordic region as part of China's build-up of its new e-commerce logistics infrastructure.
