Jun 17, 2016 (newstodate): After the latest update of EU's Aviation Air Safety List, published in June 16, 2016, Iran Air is again free to operate into EU markets with few remaining restrictions.
The restriction mainly apply to specific aircraft including Fokker 100 and Boeing 747 aircraft.
As for the other aircraft in Iran Air's fleet, no restrictions apply, enabling the carrier to greatly expand its presence in the EU market as commercial opportunities rise.
Following today's update, a total of 216 airlines are banned from EU skies: 214 airlines certified in 19 states due to a lack of safety oversight by the aviation authorities from these states; two individual airlines, based on safety concerns: Iraqi Airways and Blue Wing Airlines, from Suriname.
An additional six airlines are subject to operational restrictions and can only fly to the EU with specific aircraft types including Afrijet and Nouvelle Air Affaires SN2AG, from Gabon, Air Koryo, Air Service Comores, Iran Air, and TAAG Angola Airlines.
