Jun 29, 2016 (newstodate): The economic plights of Russia are clearly manifested also in the volumes of air transportation.
Until only few years back, the volume of passengers on domestic flights was rising steeply, but this trend has been reversed, or at least dampened significantly.
In May 2016, the number of passengers on Russian domestic flights was up a mere 1.6 percent, to 4.4 mio passengers, and in April the volume increased by 6.8 percent.
During January-March, the growth was still 15 percent, y-o-y, so with the latest months the downward trend is clearly manifesting itself.
While the overall volumes on domestic flights are thus down in 2016, Aeroflot Group carriers are obviously increasing their share of the market as the latest statistics for May 2016 show Aeroflot's domestic pax volumes up by 8.5 percent, y-o-y.
