Formerly a DDR air force base equipped with a 3,100 m runway, the airport was acquired by the Danish investment group, Airport Development A/S in 2010, and ambitions were to develop the airport for traffic by LCC and cargo operators.
While the airport has seen Ryanair operating for a brief period ending in November 201,3 and some cargo operations, the owner has declared the insolvency of the airport company that is now up for sale.
In addition to Magdeburg-Cochstedt Airport, the Danish investor group managed by Michael Agerled as CEO also acquired Furstenwalde/Spree Airport and Maxwalde Airport in 2010.
