Jun 15, 2016 (newstodate): Airbus may still be credited with having been the first mover into Iran's aviation business after the end of sanctions - but the US competitor may still have the last laugh..
At least Boeing has now confirmed that negotiations with Iran Air, comfirmed on June 6, will eventually lead to a significant aircraft order, and expectations are that the the deal may comprise both Boeing 777, Boeing 787 and Boeing 737 aircraft.
No details on the size of the coming orders are yet available but may be announced the the forthcoming Farnborough Air Show, sources say.
In the meantime, the 188 aircraft deal with Airbus has still not been finalized.
The final agreement on the 118 aircraft deal was to be firmed up already in February but is now awaited by July, pending solution to outstanding issues concerning financing of the deliveries.
The delivery schedule comprises five Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft in 2016, together with three ATR72-600 aircraft.
This will be followed by 14 more aircraft in 2017, and by 2024 all 45 A320, 45 A330, 16 A350 and 12 A38, expected to be firmed up would be delivered.
The first ATR delivery is slated for November 2016, and all of the 20 aircraft ordered would be delivered by 2020.
Iran Air has also secured options for a further 20 ATR72-600 aircraft that are expected to be confirmed in 2021.
