May 18, 2016 (newstodate): The German subsidiary of Lithuania's leisure carrier Small Planet Airlines is now on its own wings.
Earlier this month, Small Planet Airlines GmbH obtained its German AOC, permitting it to operate flights under German registration and with the first operation on May 13, 2016.
Small Planet Airlines Group began offering its services to the German market last autumn with a clear vision to establish an AOC in Germany.
The carrier has concluded agreements with two leading tour operators, TUI and Thomas Cook, and this summer plans to implement almost 800 flights.
In 2016, Small Planet Airlines GmbH will operate from two bases Bremen and Paderborn, with a fleet comprising two Airbus A320 aircraft.
Under the agreement with Thomas Cook, company will handle over 100,000 passengers and will operate 460 flights from its Paderborn base during the summer season. Passengers will fly to Mediterranean resorts, mostly Mallorca in Spain.
In total 14 weekly flights to Rhodes, Heraklion, Kos, Menorca and Burgas are planned with another partner, TUI Deutschland.
The AOC in Germany will be the third for Small Planet Group which is also operating airlines in Lithuania and Poland.
Small Planet Airlines Germany is managed by Andreas Wobig and Oliver Pawel, former Germania CEO and CCO, respectively.
