May 27, 2016 (newstodate): Rather unnoticed, a new Lithuanian carrier has taken off: GetJet Airlines, based at Vilnius Airport.
-We established GetJet Airlines in 2011, but received our AOC and Operating License only in 2016, says Benas Laurinaitis, GetJet Airlines CEO.
-During the first period, we acted mainly as aircraft brokering company, but we have now built a fleet comprising three Boeing 737-400 aircraft that are all on firm ACMI contracts with airline customers during this summer season and actually booked for Summer 2017 as well.
-The winter season is of course more difficult, but we are highly flexible and capable of allocating capacity wherever it is in demand.
-For this first season with own AOC and aircraft fleet we do not foresee any expansion, focusing rather on consolidating our performance and trimming our organization comprising some 20 staff. But looking further ahead we might take in Boeing 737-800 aircraft if warranted by the market.
-From the start, we are fully focused on passenger transportation, leaving visions for air cargo out till a later date, says Mr Laurinaitis.
