May 27, 2016 (newstodate): A winner has now emerged from tender for air transport services between Tallinn and two small islands in the Baltic Sea.
Among three contenders, the Lithuanian carrier Transaviabaltika was picked for the contract that will run till May 2019.
The tender was opened due to the demise of the former provider of air services on the routes, Avies that had its operations suspended on April 1, 2016, after the airline's operating license was withdrawn by Estonian Civil Aviation Administration.
Transaviabaltika will operate a Jetstream 3200 and a LET L-410 on the routes Tallinn-Kardla and Tallinn-Kuressaare ofering 12 weekly flights on each of the routes.
Another bid came from the Estonian carrier Nordica that does not, however, operate aircraft of the size required.
