May 12, 2016 (newstodate): The leading Lithuanian logistics company Hoptrans is in the process of launching new freighter flights from China to Kaunas Airport.
-We have already performed a number of test flights on the route from Beijing to Kaunas with chartered freighters, and I would expect regular traffic to be opened soon, expecting up to three weekly flights bringing in some 30-40 tonnes of cargo, says Jan Hyttel, Hoptrans member of the Board.
-Driving this new service will be the tsunami-like expansion in the e-commerce between China and Europe, and what we offer is not only the air transport but comprehensive logistics including road feeder services and cooperation with the postal authorities to bring the commodities to the doorstep of the end-user.
-Details on which carrier will eventually be contracted to provide the uplift are still being negotiated, but other pertinent infrastructural elements including IT systems are all in place.
-Other details include the selection of the Chinese airport to serve as the point of departure in China, which must eventually be close to the regions actually generating the shipments and capable of handling the coming traffic, says Mr Hyttel.
Hoptrans has rich experience to back the new venture, having managed regular charter freighter traffic into Kaunas from Shanghai for period of 18 months until five years ago.
