May 18, 2016 (newstodate): The Hungarian LCC Wizz Air is airing prospects for setting up its second base in Lithuanian within the near future.
Wizz Air first launched flights at Kaunas Airport from March 29, 2016, established Vilnius as its 14th operational base from April 17, 2011, and added flights at Palanga Airport starting from March 23, 2016, thus now serving all three airports managed by the holding company Lithuanian Airports.
In 2016, the municipality of Kaunas allocated funds for developing new routes to four destinations from Kaunas Airport, each marked by high GDP per capita - Eindhoven in the Netherlands, and three destinations in Norway: Bergen, and Aalesund and Stavanger, all important industrial cities in Norway's oil & gas belt.
The Hungarian LCC Wizz Air has applied for the routes, and plans are now to launch the new services later in 2016, while marketing campaigns will soon be launched to promote the new services.
