May 03, 2016 (newstodate): The municipality of Kaunas, in Lithuania, is keen to grow the city's connectivity through new air services.
A total of 500,000 euro has therefore been allocated to developing new routes to four destinations from Kaunas Airport, each marked by high GDP per capita - Eindhoven in the Netherlands, and three destinations in Norway: Bergen, and Alesund and Stavanger, all important industrial cities in Norway's oil & gas belt.
The Hungarian LCC Wizz Air has applied for the routes, and plans are now to launch the new services later in 2016, while marketing campaigns will soon be launched to promote the new services.
Wizz Air first launched flights at Kaunas Airport from March 29, 2016, and established Vilnius as its 14th operational from April 17, 2011, and added flights at Palanga Airport starting from March 23, 2016, thus now serving all three airports managed by the holding company Lithuanian Airports.
