May 13, 2016 (newstodate): Close neighbors, but so far pursuing individual strategies: Greenland and Iceland have agreed on several cooperation projects.
Among the selected fields of potential cooperation, the development of civil aviation has now been singled out as a target to be pursued.
After a telephone conference between Greenland's minister for labor, trade and foreign affairs and the incumbent foreign minister of Iceland, the parties have agreed to establish a joint working group targeting the enhancement of air safety, and the efficiency and optimized utilization of the airports of the two countries.
Greenland is currently engaging on the realization of long-overdue plans for airport modernization, and the Icelandic carrier Air Iceland is also expanding its services between the two countries having replaced the earlier fleet of Fokker 50 with Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
