May 30, 2016 (newstodate): The tender for concession to providing air services in Greenland has now been closed, and at least one bidder is known: Aluu Airlines.
-We have handed in our final offer and have placed a bid for all flights under the concession scheme, says Kuno Fenker, Aluu Airlines CEO.
-We cannot know exactly when an announcement will be made by the government, but hopes are that this will happen some time in June. The coming new service contract will take effect from January 1, 2017, so once a decision has been made, final preparations will immediately be launched if we are proclaimed winner.
-The preparations are at an advanced stage, so as soon as the signal has been given, the projects will be started up. And there will of course be a number of concrete details to be finalized. But - we are ready to move, says Mr Fenker.
Earlier this month, Sky Greenland's Gert Brask told newstodate that the company would not participate in the tender as its intended partner in the bid, the Canadian helicopter company CHC Helicopter folded its wings and filed for Chapter 11 protection to seek restructuring of its business.
According to Mr Brask, Sky Greenland nevertheless remains determined to launch flights in Greenland outside the framework of the system set up by the tender.
