May 18, 2016 (newstodate): Bulgaria is preparing to tender the concession for managing Sofia Airport.
Plans are to launch a tender process for the successful bidder to operate the airport for 35 years, and expectations are that a contract may be signed before the end of this year already.
In 2004, Sofia Airport obtained a loan by EIB to finance the construction of a new passenger terminal and certain infrastructural projects.
As part of the conditions for the loan, Sofia Airport was to remain under the current state authority till 2017 - a time line now close.
The country's second-largest airport at Plovdiv is already amidst a tender process, closing in mid-June, and the airports of Varna and Burgas are operated by a consortium led by Fraport since 2006.
