Apr 20, 2016 (newstodate): The start of freighter operations by Korean Air Cargo and Uzbekistan Airways has now been set for April 29, 2016.
The operation will be performed with Uzbekistan Airways' Boeing 767-300BCF freighters, initially offering two weekly rotations between Navoi and Tehran.
The new service will bring Korean and Asian exports to Iran via Navoi as a logistics hub transferring cargo between Korean Air Cargo and the Uzbek carrier's freighters.
In 2008,Uzbekistan Airways and the Hanjin Group, parent company of Korean Air, signed an agreement to develop Uzbekistan's logistics infrastructure including the building of a new logistics center at Navoi, Uzbekistan.
In August 2010, the new terminal with an annual capacity of handling up to 100,000 tonnes was commissioned at Navoi, and freighter flights now connect Navoi with Frankfurt, Vienna, Milan, Zaragoza, Tel Aviv, Dubai, Delhi, Mumbai and Seoul.
In 2015, a total of 35,800 tonnes of cargo was handled at Navoi, an increase by 16 percent,k y-o-y.
