Apr 11, 2016 (newstodate): The role of Uzbekistan's Navoi International Airport will be further bolstered by the partnership between Uzbekistan Airways and Korean Airlines Cargo.
Opening up after the lifting of sanctions is the Iranian cargo market, and the two partners will now bring cargo carried on Korean Air Cargo's network into Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport via Uzbekistan Air's cargo hub at Navoi.
The new offer will be launched from the end of this month using Uzbekistan Airways twice weekly Boeing 767-300ERF service between Navoi and Tehran.
In addition to this cooperation on freighter capacity, Korean Air Lines has also obtained rights to operate four weekly passenger flights capable of carrying belly cargo between Incheon and Tehran.
In 2008,Uzbekistan Airways and the Hanjin Group, parent company of Korean Air, signed an agreement to develop Uzbekistan's logistics infrastructure including the building of a new logistics center at Navoi, Uzbekistan.
In August 2010, the new terminal with an annual capacity of handling up to 100,000 tonnes was commissioned at Navoi, and in cooperation with Uzbekistan Airways Korean Air Cargo now operates over 80 flights per week through Navoi Airport to destinations including Seoul, Milan, Brussels, Zaragoza, Frankfurt, Bangkok, Delhi, Mumbai, Dacca and Istanbul.
