Apr 26, 2016 (newstodate): Although SAAB stopped production of its upgraded version of its SAAB 340 aircraft in 1999, the aircraft type is still very much in demand.
A US aircraft maintenance, engineering and modification provider, Worldwide Aircraft Services will now team up with Saab AB to obtain FAA approval for the installation of the Saab 340A cargo modification Service Bulletins into the SAAB 340B aircraft.
The Saab 340B's improved performance will offer operators greater flexibility, range and capacity, compared to the SAAB 340A.
Saab manufactured 159 340A model aircraft from 1982 to 1986, and 299 340B model aircraft from 1987 to 1999.
The SAAB 340 fleet currently has 458 aircraft operating in 37 countries around the world.
To date, 68 340A aircraft have been converted to full-freighters.
