Apr 25, 2016 (newstodate): Fish is a positive contributor to human health - and to the air cargo industry as well, with the Nordics as a shining example.
According to information presented by Lufthansa Cargo at this year's Nordic Air Cargo Symposium in April, the total volumes of airfreight in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland accrued to about 290,000 tonnes in 2015.
This figure includes perishables in the form of seafood exports.
Deducting seafood volumes from the totals, the Nordic airfreight volumes were "only" about 180,000 tonnes, proving that seafood now constitutes roundly 60 percent of the total Nordic airfreight volumes.
And without the seafood shipments, Nordic airfreight volumes are stagnating, or outright shrinking by 0.6 percent, y-o-y, in 2015.
The Nordic seafood exports are almost exclusively generated by Norway where the total volume in 2015 exceeded the 160,000 tonnes-mark, demonstrating that non-perishables exports are less than 20 percent of the total volume.
Less than 10 percent of the Norwegian seafood exports is, however, flown out of the country, with the bulk being trucked into other Nordic and continental airports for uplift.
