Apr 07, 2016 (newstodate): The Hungarian LCC Wizz Air is again to expand its activities in Romania.
Taking effect from from August 2016, the carrier will open its 7th Romanian base in Sibiu with one Airbus A320 opening flights to Nuremberg, Munich Memmingen, Milan Bergamo and Madrid, as well as adding flights between London Luton and Suceava, its ninth destination in the country.
To compete with Wizz Air, Ryanair also plans to open up five bases in Romania in the coming years, while operating flights today from Brussels into only one Romanian destination, Bucharest, opened up by the carrier in 2008.
As a first step, Ryanair has announced its decision to establish a new base at Timisoara Airport from November 2016, allocating one Boeing 737-700 aircraft to launch flights on seven new routes.
