Apr 28, 2016 (newstodate): Lithuania's Kaunas Airport is seeing cargo volumes rising in 2016.
In the first three months of this year, the airport handled a total of 506 tonnes of cargo - a modest volume but still an increase by 14.75 percent, y-o-y.
The growth was, however, secured by an increase in February 2016 alone, when volumes rose by 10.51 percent, y-o-y, to 177 tonnes.
June 2015 saw the launch of Aerohub KUN - a long-term project to establish Kaunas Airport as a center for aviation-related industries as well as a logistics hub in Lithuania serving the Baltic, Russian and E European markets.
As a first step, the infrastructure of Kaunas Airport has been upgraded and completed, and the next step will include connecting Kaunas Airport with Kaunas Free Economic Zone.
The country's leading international airport at Vilnius also saw volumes up in Q1, 2016, handling a total of 2,080 tonnes after growing 8.92 percent, y-o-y.
The third international airport also within the Lithuanian Airports' group, Palanga Airport dropped 26.31 percent, y-o-y, in cargo volumes, to 1,171 tonnes during Q1.
