Apr 07, 2016 (newstodate): To capitalize on the successful experience by Latvia's Riga Airport in handling large volumes of ISAF cargo during the years 2012-15, new steps have been taken to drive the progress further ahead.
On April 5, 2016, the Aviation Association of Latvia and the Federation of Security and Defense Industries of Latvia signed an agreement with the aim to facilitate the competitiveness of the Latvian companies operating in the aviation industry and spur the growth of the national economy by engaging in the provision of the aviation logistics for the domestic and international security and defense.
-The efficient aviation infrastructure, sufficient capacity and highly qualified work force is our competitive advantage that can be successfully promoted for creation of various international military and civil supply chains via Latvia, says Arturs Kokars, member of the board of the AAL.
-For example, Riga Airport has already demonstrated its ability to handle large aviation cargo flows by working with the ISAF in non-military cargo logistics within Northern Distribution Network.
By combining the competence of the FSDI Latvia and the AAL, the parties will develop professional industry proposals to NATO and UN logistics organizations. The joint activities of AAL and FSDI Latvia will be focused on the promotion of Latvian businesses and their encouragement to participate in the international tenders and policymaking processes of the aviation cargo transit, using the services of Latvia's transport infrastructure.
