Apr 28, 2016 (newstodate): China will see the construction of its first all-cargo airport, following the government's approval of plans presented by SF Airlines, owned by SF Express Co.
The airport will also become the first non-state owned airport in the country, and construction of the new facility will start already before the end of this year.
The exact location of the new airport has yet to be revealed but it will be strategically located to serve the main business communities requiring the express parcel and mail deliveries by SF Airlines, and when completed the airport will become the largest cargo airport in Asia and the 4th largest in the world.
With the first flight in 2009, SF Airlines is China's largest cargo carrier, operating a fleet of 12 Boeing 737, 15 Boeing 757 and one Boeing 767 cargo aircraft, with orders placed for a further 29 Boeing 767 freighters.
The airline plans to grow its fleet to over 100 aircraft by 2020.
