Apr 14, 2016 (newstodate): The commercial aviation industry is continuing its drive towards consolidation, and this is changing also the environment for a carrier like Latvia's airBaltic.
-airBaltic is now operating profitably for three consecutive years by implementing its restructuring plan, and with the recent injections of new cash from private and state investors we have now achieved a situation marked by positive equity translating into improved credit ratings and lower interest rates on loans, says Martin Gauss, airBaltic CEO and President.
-We are working in accordance with our Horizon 2021 strategy and building up a fleet of 20 Bombardier CS300 aircraft in addition to our fleet of 12 Dash-8 Q400 aircraft, strengthening cost-efficiency in sustained efforts to provide the Baltic markets with connectivity.
-At the same time we will invariably need to identify a strategic partner to secure our future.
-In today's and tomorrow's aviation environment there is no individual long-term future for a small airline like ours. This search is already going on, and I envisage that the process must reach a decisive point within the coming two years already.
-And with a new strategic partner all issues will again be open, says Mr Gauss.
