Mar 16, 2016 (newstodate): Ryanair has announced the opening of its second base in Lithuania, and the carrier's 82nd, from October 30, 2016.
The new base at Vilnius will have two Boeing 737-800 aircraft stationed to serve a network comprising two new routes to Berlin Schoenefeld and Malta while existing seasonal routes from Vilnius to Birmingham, London Luton and London Stansted will go year-round from the next winter schedule.
The routes to Birmingham and Malta are, however, to be moved from the carrier's other base at Kaunas, leaving only the route to Berlin a true novelty.
With these additions, the coming new Ryanair base at Vilnius will have a total of 23 routes.
Ryanair first launched services to Vilnius Airport from May 2011.
Prior to that, Ryanair performed its first flight in Lithuania at Kaunas Airport on September 22, 2005, and made Kaunas Airport its 40th base from May 2, 2010, basing two aircraft at the station and adding nine new destinations to nine other destinations already served.
Ryanair is also offering flights to Lithuania's third airport at Palanga, near the Baltic coast, with seasonal connections to London Stansted during the summer period.
