Mar 15, 2016 (newstodate): Politics have put an at least temporary brake on the king crab cargo flights from Lakselv Banak Airport to South Korea.
With the first operation on January 14, 2016, the flights have been performed with a TU-204 freighter from the Russian carrier Aviastar-TU lifting some 30 tonnes of king crabs are routed from Lakselv Banak Airport with fuel stops at Nizhnevartovsk and Irkutsk to Incheon, South Korea.
Now the Norwegian CAA has withdrawn the carrier's permit to operate the flights in retaliation for the Russian authorities' sustained delay in offering similar rights for Norwegian carriers' flights through Russian airspace.
The Russian reluctance in handling Norway's application for overflight rights is barring the country's LCC Norwegian from operating the direct routes from Scandinavia to Asian destinations, primarily Bangkok in Thailand.
