Mar 02, 2016 (newstodate): Based at Denmark's Odense Airport, the new company Northern Aviation Group set up by Icelandic national Einar Adalsteinsson has several aviation and aviation-related projects on the agenda.
First to come is the start of ad-hoc charter operations from March 2016 with one Beechcraft King Air aircraft, primarily targeting the business community at Central Denmark's Funen Island.
Next in line is the launch of scheduled and charter services out of Odense Airport from mid-May 2016 to destinations in the UK, Sweden and Norway with 50-seat aircraft currently under evaluation.
But further down the line are also considerations concerning cargo services.
-We are indeed keeping an eye on cargo business as well alongside the passenger operations, says Mr Adalsteinsson.
-We are thus looking at various scenarios with all-freighter services, but this certainly requires further studies and market analysis. Compared to the passenger services, cargo operations would probably require an infrastructure with better access to highways than offered by Odense Airport, with for instance Billund Airport as one option.
-One key business case would be cargo services to and from the North Atlantic market such as Iceland and the Faero Islands where there certainly is an untapped market for uplift of seafood exports. And in the case of Iceland we would probably look deeper into services at Akureyri rather than focusing only on Keflavik as other airlines continue to do.
-But in any case the issue of cargo business will come later as a natural extension of our activities once everything else is in full swing, says Mr Adalsteinsson.
