Mar 16, 2016 (newstodate): The temporary suspension of cargo charter flights from Norway to South Korea hinges on progress in Norway-Russia talks on air services.
The cargo flights lifting Norwegian exports of king crabs to Asia were performed by the Russian carrier Aviastar-UT on the basis of repeated one-off permits by the Norwegian CAA.
As these flights turned into a prolonged series of services, Norway eventually refused to grant the permit as Russia has been slow in dealing with Norway's demand for reciprocity in relation to the LCC Norwegian's long-standing application for rights to fly through Russian airspace en-route to Bangkok.
The issue of applications by Aviastar to operate the cargo charter flights were handled by Norway's CAA, but the country's Ministry of Transport and Communication has now intervened, taking over the case for political negotiations with Russia on the larger picture.
Contracted by newstodate, the Ministry says it cannot at this stage make any public statement on the issue.
The company managing the king crab logistics, Air Cargo Logistics, also keeps tight-lipped awaiting the outcome of the political negotiatoins.
