Mar 10, 2016 (newstodate): Good news for Finavia, but maybe not for Finnair: Helsinki is one of 14 new destinations announced by the carrier at the ongoing ITB Berlin.
Qatar Airways will start flights from Doha to Helsinki from October 10, 2016, with daily rotations on the route, intially using Airbus A320 aircraft.
The 13 other destinations to be added to the route network from Doha are Pisa, Sarajevo, Nice and Skopje in Europe, Marrakech, Windhoek, Douala, Libreville, Lusaka and Seychelles in Africa, Krabi and Chiang Mai in Thailand, and Auckland in Southwest Pacific - with the latter to become the world's longest scheduled route.
Qatar Airways first entered Scandinavia with a route between Doha and Stockholm, Sweden, launched on November 27, 2007, adding the route between Doha and Copenhagen, Denmark, from March 30, 2010, and finally launching flights from Doha to Oslo, Norway, from October 5, 2011.
The new route to Helsinki has long been awaited, first aired with plans for start of services already in 2012.
