Mar 10, 2016 (newstodate): News of the coming Qatar Airways flights fro Doha to Helsinki is most welcomed by Finavia, managing the country's airports including Helsinki Airport.
-It is certainly a great pleasure to welcome Qatar Airways to Helsinki from October 10, 2016, and even if the start will be with Airbus A320 aircraft hopes and expectations are of course that the route will develop to sustain wide-body operations further down the road, says Timo Jarvela, Finavia Head of Accounts and Route Development.
-Flying to Dubai from Helsinki are already Finnair and Norwegian, so this will be our third Gulf connection adding to the potentials for transfer traffic beyond Dubai and Doha.
-2016 has really come off to a good start at Helsinki Airport that has seen passenger volumes up by eight percent during January-February.
-We are also seeing good signs for an increase during the next winter program, with flights from Germany to destinations in Lappland by Lufthansa and Germania, and the latest news, yet to be published later today, is that the UK leisure carrier Monarch is also to set up traffic from London Gatwich to Kiitila, in Lappland, during the winter schedule, says Mr Jarvela.
