Mar 18, 2016 (newstodate): Azerbaijan's cargo carrier Silk Way West and Malaysian Airlines Kargo have signed an agreement for joint use of aircraft and network expansion.
As a first result, Silk Way West will launch flights on a new twice-weekly freighter route between Kuala Lumpur and Amsterdam, with Baku as an en-route stop.
Following on this, the two airlines will cooperate on opening up more new freighter routes with joint use of the capacity.
In the fleet of Silk Way West are now two Boeing 747-8F and two Boeing 747-400F aircraft, but two more Boeing 747-8F will follow in the second and third quarters of 2016, and the fleet will be expanded to seven freighters further down the line.
According to reports in 2015, Silk Way West has also been in talks with Riga Airport, Latvia, about setting up Riga as a logistics hub after construction of new cargo and warehousing facilities and other infrastructure.
