Feb 29, 2016 (newstodate): While West Atlantic's performance in the segments comprising Boeing 737 and Boeing 767 operations have been adding value during the carrier's interim report 2015, problems continue in the small freighter segment.
-In the up to eight tonnes payload market, serviced by the Groups BAE ATP and CRJ200PF fleets, the Group has encountered a decreased demand for its services throughout the year, the report says.
-This is primarily due to an ongoing consolidation of the volumes leading to increased demand for larger aircraft. Following this market trend, combined with the ongoing process of closing operations on behalf of the Swedish PostNord, the Group is exploring new commercial opportunities whilst strategically evaluating future possibilities for the spare capacity available in 2016.
The decision is, then to cut the size of the fleet of small ATP freighters, and to seek new business outside the core EU markets.
-Commercial activities intended to increase the utilization of the up to eight tonnes fleet will be a vital component in 2016 in order to increase contribution from these assets. The strategic decision to increase the geographical presence outside the core European market will provide the Group with opportunities to leverage its position on a global basis, the report reads.
In the fleet of West Atlantic are now 40 ATP freighters, as well as three CRJ220PF aircraft.
