Feb 16, 2016 (newstodate): If the US government has its say, Mahan Air will be prevented from setting up flights on new routes between Iran and airports in Western countries.
While most of the EU sanctions against Iran have been lifted, a number of US sanctions still apply on exports and sale to Iran of aircraft and aircraft parts to some airlines, but they seem also to apply to certain airlines' operations into Europe.
In focus is Mahan Air that is allegedly connected to Iran's Revolutionary Guard and reportedly observed performing flights to Syria with equipment and other materials in support of the Syrian government and Hizbollah forces.
According to a US Treasury official speaking to an Arab media, the US administration will put pressure on European states to block Mahan Air's flights and prevent the opening of new European destinations.
As earlier reported by newstodate, Mahan Air has recently rescheduled its opening of flights from Tehran to Stockholm and Copenhagen with first flights on June 2 and 6, 2016, respectively.
