Feb 08, 2016 (newstodate): Unforeseen delays by Airbus and not least its sub-suppliers have repeatedly forced Finnair to revise its Airbus A350 delivery scheme.
In the latest announcement on the issue from December 23, 2015, Finnair said it would take delivery of the sixth aircraft in July 2016, while the seventh aircraft will enter the fleet only in February 2017.
Until then, Finnair expected to have five A350-900 aircraft at the beginning of the second quarter of 2016, seven by the end of 2016, 11 by the end of 2017, and 19 by the end of 2023.
So far, only three aircraft have however been delivered - Finnair received its first Airbus A350 WXB aircraft from Airbus on October 7, 2015, the second followed on on December 14, 2015, and the third landed at Helsinki Airport on December 31, 2015.
The fourth delivery was slated for January 27, 2016, but like the fifth aircraft for Finnair it remains delayed due to re-delivery of toilet units from Airbus' sub-supplier that is running severely behind schedule and lacking in conformity with quality requirements.
Both aircraft have performed their first test flight but have since been standing on the ground pending a solution to the delivery problems.
